Albuquerque was a horribly boring place. I was talking to a kid who seemed somewhere around our age and asked him what people do in there. Seeing me with Allie, he said "well you already got a girl so I guess you won't be going to the tittie bar." I figured that summed up Albuquerque. Nothing good to do. We cut our losses and drove close to Santa Fe to a place called Jemez Springs. It was something similar to the Turquoise Trail but we were the only ones without a New Mexico license plate. We drove through the area hoping to find a waterfall as we stopped at native american ruins and some beautiful rivers, rocks and all that kind of environmental stuff. We followed the signs for the waterfall and landed in a parking area with no water in sight. I asked a guy who looked like he knew the area and he said its a pretty strenuous 5 mile hike. Me and Allie were feeling adventures and started following the path to be greeted with a mountainous slope of a trail. Then it started raining. Then we realized we wanted to head back haha. But we had a great time despite wussing out.

We headed to cottonwood Arizona the next day. We found the Pines Motel that for whatever reason was in the greatest small town ever. It was an hour north of Phoenix, half an hour south of Sedona and close enough to the grand canyon. We jumped in the pool and fell asleep. The following day was a blast. We went to a silly, touristy ghost town called Jerome. It was some 7000 odd miles in elevation and it felt like we drove straight up 2000 of those miles. The buildings are arraigned on top of each other and I imagine planes passing by play tetris in minds with all the objects. The greatest part was driving to the natural slide in Sliding Rock National Park. Even better, for whatever reason, was putting cruise control on 80 and blasting pop punk. I don't go swimming a lot but the feeling of driving while wearing your swimsuit is enough reason alone for me to start doing it more.

As we are traveling I keep asking myself how I am going to explain to everyone what we did or what my favorite destination was. The grand canyon is a hard one to explain. It is exactly what you would expect. I found being there to be a similar experience to looking at a picture... or even just listening to a descriptive story. The best way to illustrate MY travels there is a certain feeling I had. We walk out to the rim of the canyon just before the sunset. We find a spot on the edge to eat food and I mean we found the very EDGE. I think if i stretched out my legs they would be hanging off (but don't think I am too tough because we were sitting next to thousands of other people including our 70 yr old neighbor). As we sat there I got sucked into the sheer intensity of the scenery and found it was so belittling that the wind felt like it could sweep me off my butt and I was would plummet down the canyon. Luckily that didn't happen.

Reno was already described well. It was a ton of fun.

so today is the first real day in California. I have been to Southern California which I always hated. It felt like NJ but the whole thing is rich parts instead of splatters of upper class like we have. We drive up Highway 1 for 4 or 5 hours just taking it in. I loved it. It was something right in between a warm embrace and a death threat. We shot around the twists and turns and it was great. Another grand canyon moment.

Ugh what a bad description of our past two weeks. Ill make sure we doing go this long agiain

  2. Still getting used to this blog stuff.
I wrote a whole long comment and it only posted the last part. Sucks! Anyway I am rewriting it ...

I am so envious that you get to see and do new things everyday. To keep things lively around here I created another project. Allie knows that is what I do to keep things lively around here. We started landscaping the backyard during the hottest summer ever. Yes, our backyard park is starting to happen. However, when we bought the shrubbery (said with Monty python accent of course) and filled the car up and sat in the backyard having ice cold cervesas we did not want to do the real work to dig and mulch so we just watered them everyday praying they would walk over and plant themselves. At the risk of having them all die, we asked for help from our landscaper friend Jack who brought over many hardworking hombres who are mulcing right now in 95 degrees as I sit in our air-conditioned kitchen -feeling just a little guilty (-:) anyway now i have to run out and buy lots of super soaker hoses so I don't kill everything. We now have a Weeping cherry and 4 tall evergreens and I am dancing around the house with happiness!

Now if only we had the kidney shaped pool and the twinkle lights I would be in heaven every night! The dream just keeps getting better!

Today we brought all 3 cats for their yearly shots. Kinda like a family outting except with cat boxes. All the cats got a clean bill of health. And speaking of bills, the bill was really hefty! We established that lady needs her own litter box and we are going to set up one just for her. She's such a princess! And, Yes Allie, I will brush her when she comes out of hiding ...

Gotta go to home depot to get those hoses!
